River City Church.
Growing up in the Grace of God.
Church: God’s people in Christ.
Evangelical: Proclaiming the Gospel.
Pentecostal: In the Holy Spirit’s power.
Apostolic: And equipping others to do the same.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” 2Cor.5:17
If asked to identify yourself as an individual, you may choose to describe yourself in terms such as your nationality, occupation, family or even religious beliefs. However no one can claim to really know you, until they know your passion, your heart. Many religions claim to know God, but there remains only one supreme revelation of the Father; Jesus Christ and one place His heart was seen most clearly; Calvary. This is why the only message in the world that can truly reveal God to man is ‘Christ and Him crucified’ (1.Cor.2:2).
So too, we could choose to identify River City Church in terms such as apostolic, pentecostal or evangelical, but if you want to know our passion, our heart, then all you need to know is this; we have been overwhelmed by the grace of God and desire to remain so.
If you are a visitor passing through, then this information may not appear that significant, but if you are considering making River City your spiritual home, then we don’t want you to feel frustrated many months from now, when you realise that all we seem to talk about is Christ and Him crucified! (1Cor.2:2). It may also save you some time to know that we believe Jesus paid in full at the Cross, not only for all our sins; past, present and future, (Psalm 103:12, Acts 13:38,39, 2Cor.5:21, Hebrews 10:9-14, Hebrews 10:17,18) but also for the healing of all our diseases (Psalm 103:3, Proverbs 3:7,8, Proverbs 4:20-22, Isaiah 53:5, Matthew 8:16,17, Acts 5:16, James 5:14-16, 1Peter 2:24)
We regularly minister healing to the sick, but rather than pleading with God about what the sickness is doing, we prefer to speak to the sickness about what Christ has already done (Mark 16:15). We have also found that if we never lay hands on the sick, then we never see any healings, but the more people we pray for, the more healings we see. We don’t claim to be operating yet in the fullness of what Christ has provided for us, but in being open to learn, we have found the Holy Spirit to be a great teacher! He continually affirms our identity in Christ (Romans 8:15) and assures us that God’s divine power at work in our lives (grace), is freely given (1Cor.2:12). Through a revelation of the abundant generosity of God towards us, He continues to lead us away from any traditions or religious ideas that make the Word of God of no effect (Mark.7:13)
So if you make your home with us, then be prepared to find yourself on a journey. An apostolic house is one that challenges believers to no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about by every wind of doctrine, but rather to grow up into their new identity in Christ, so love can rule their lives, not fear (Ephesians 4:14,15). We believe church growth is primarily about growing bigger Christians, not just bigger churches and that believers grow by a revelation of Christ and their new identity in Him. Such a revelation is always how Jesus promised He would build His Church (Matthew 16:16-18)

River City Church is part of the Apostolic Church UK and Ireland. The Apostolic Church was birthed out of the great Welsh Revival of 1904 and you can read a fuller account on the official church website at www.apostolic-church.org. Formed in 1916, it is an evangelical Pentecostal church with a strong commitment to worldwide mission. Today it is a global church with millions of members throughout five continents.
As you will see in our statement of beliefs below, tenets Nos. 5 and 6 place us firmly in the Pentecostal section of Christendom, the fastest growing expression of the Christian faith.
Our unique tenet is No. 9, believing as we do that it was never the purpose of God that the recognised ministry of the Apostles and Prophets should cease any time in the ‘Church Age’. We believe that the power, the passion and the pattern of the early Church as recorded in the book of Acts, is the experience that God still desires for His Church today. That pattern of a fivefold ministry of apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers is recorded in Ephesians 4.vv11,12.
“And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.
The ministries of ordained evangelists, pastors and teachers have been widely recognised across the body of Christ, but in recent decades there has begun a restoration of the ministries of the Apostle and the Prophet to the body of Christ. These ministries have been recognised in The Apostolic Church throughout the 20th century and have been foundational to the growth of the Church across the world. These are vital equipping ministries if the saints (believers) are to be released to the work of the ministry, rather than ‘ministry’ being a term reserved for the pulpit. There is no biblical New Testament pattern of a separate ‘Clergy’ and ‘Laity’. Every believer is a member of one body with a different gift according to the grace given us (Romans 12.v4-8)
Right now throughout the world, God is moving by His Holy Spirit to transform lives through a revelation of His great love and wonderful purpose for each individual. He offers reconciliation and restoration to a world that is dying from the effects of separation from Him. He offers each of us ‘fullness of life’ through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who took the cause of our separation; our sin, onto Himself on the Cross.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16.
